Bienvenido De Nuevo | And the Fiesta Begins at Ratavosi !

Ola Everyone !

The Fiesta begins at Ratavosi today with the release of my Mexican Inspired Commercial Collection, “Bienvendio de Nuevo”.

It consists of Bold, Bright pieces that are affordable, for everyday wear, yet still maintain their exclusivity.

This Collection is inspired by many things but I think it is safe to say the Mexican Day of the dead was probably the first thing that came to mind when combining them all.

Day of the dead, also known as “Dia de Los Muertos”, is a spiritual holiday celebrated within central and South Mexico to commemorate the dead.

“They believe that the gates of heaven are opened at midnight on October 31, and the spirits of all deceased children (angelitos) are allowed to reunite with their families for 24 hours. On November 2, the spirits of the adults come down to enjoy the festivities that are prepared for them.”(1*)

When I was doing research on this particular subject, there was only one person I had in mind – the women who allowed me to unleash this passion, who exposed me to this passion – My Grandmother.

All I could think was if I just had one more day with you, if this celebration meant that for just one day you’d be reunited with us in spirit, then I was all for it.

I’m sure I have mentioned this before but I have a slight obsession with cemeteries and celebrations towards the dead.

I guess you could say, I feel a deep emotional connection, because I choose to keep that connection alive.

That is how I keep the memories of my grandmother alive.

If you’ve lost someone you’ll know where I’m coming from, that no matter what you try to do there will always be an emptiness that they once filled, and all that has been left of that are the memories you have with/of them. But as the day go by, that hole grows bigger, and the memories remain the same, so how do you fill the gap ?

Exactly what I have done – By doing what you love that reminds you of them.

This is my passion, what I love to do and I hope that even though I’ve given you the more personal, emotional explanation, you understand that this was all created from the heart.

Just because someone you cared about and someone you loved is no longer there, it doesn’t mean we have to forget them. If anything, As Chanel once said

“The dead are not really dead as long as people think about them”

On a Much lighter note:

Some of you are probably questioning the title of my Commercial collection.

“Bienvendio de Nuevo”

I had to think long and hard about this one, but it means Welcome Back in Spanish and I though it is very fitting to the holiday as well as a transition in my collections.

My last Collection, although it was a higher End Ready-To-Wear Collection, had a very nostalgic and dark feeling to it – from designing to styling. and Now with this Spring Summer Commercial Collection I have brought back the happiness with the commemoration of the dead ( coming out from the darkness), and being greeted with Bold Bright Summery Colours.
