River Island has launched a unique Southern Hemisphere collection for Spring/Summer called Fashion Ashes! Playing on the cricket series between England and Australia ‘The Ashes’, this collection sees a style off between Australian beauty Elle Brittain and British cool girl Bee Beardsworth.

About the models and collection

BEARDSWORTH

Model artist & writer 22 year old fresh face britgirl, Bee has a great sense of grungy personal style that is uniquely ‘English.’ Her cheeky personality has earned the model a cult following; Her tumblrpage attracts hundreds of fans and followers who ask Bee personal questions & life advice. Her answers are always thoughtful, open and candid, adding to her girl next door charm.

ELLE BRITTAIN

Blonde aussie bombshell Elle Britain is an emerging model face. With Lara Stone looks and bodacious curves, she is the archetypal aussie beach babe. Scouted online, Elle was signed by IMG this year. Elle also happens to be indigenous Australian and walked for the inaugural Indigenous Australia fashion we earlier this year. She has already had a few commercial campaigns under her belt and has earned fashion stripes appearing in Oyster, Yen, RUSSH & Attitude magazine.

The two models go head to head modelling the biggest trends of S/S representing their countries’ style. The collection features festival fashion, beach wear, party dresses, street style and denim.

Overall, we go for brighter colours while the British stick to earthy tones. See the difference between the seasons most wanted trends below.

Festival fashion

Doing it like a brit: The brits go for a more grungy rock and roll look with leathers, fringing, boots and earthy tones.

The Aussie way: We go for brighter colours with florals and prints and a bohemian undertone to our outfits.

Beach wear

Doing it like a brit: The brits love channelling the French Rivera feel when it comes to beachwear. Think nautical prints and boat hats!

The Aussie way: Bright colours, stunning prints and kimonos are a must to keep us looking cool. A key item to keep it causal on the beach is bleached denim shorts; these are great for throwing over your bikini bottoms.

Street style

Doing it like a Brit: Think Cara Delevingne with slogan tees and sneaker combos and on the other side there is a more feminine feel with poppy prints.

The Aussie way: We love our monochrome and sporty looks! Monochrome gives us a cool chic look while we also keep it casual with sport inspired looks.

Party dresses

Doing it like a Brit: Glamour, metallic and sparkle are all part of the party look in the northern hemisphere.

The Aussie way: Our top dress styles are body con and skater dresses. Pair this with bright colours, cut out or prints and you have the perfect combination!
