Target Essentials | Brighten up the wardrobe Part un

So everyone always expects “basics” ranges and “essentials” ranges by designers and department stores to be boring and dull, and colour-LESS !

BUT here at Target our Target Essentials range is a tad bit different !

We may have basic silhouettes but with our BRIGHT Sorbet coloured basics you can add some more ZING into that Winter Wardrobe !

My two favourites from the new arrivals are our Ruched Cap Sleeve Tops in Lime and Pink

OH AND the best part is they are just $ 15 !!

What I love about these Bright Tops is that colour blocking your outfit is made so brilliant and easy – you can also dress it up or play it casual !

Stylist’s Outfit Look 2 | Wine

I like to change up the personalities each look represents every now and then – It’s not only fun but it also shows how people perceive you – so different – all from what you are wearing.

This look is much more timeless and corporate.

I chose a Sheer Wine coloured City Dressing top.

I chose this top because it combined so many design elements I LOVED.

A button up collar, Sheer fabric, and another favourite … Guipure inserts !

IMG_0567

The pants I’m wearing are from the Hot Options Range at Target.

They have non functioning pockets for detail.

I love the fabric of these pants because they are just so comfortable to be in all day – especially at work.

I personally don’t have a lot of bottoms in my wardrobe because of the “junk-in-the-trunk” but this is one that fit perfectly without all the extra hip bulging bits ha-ha.

Another thing I added – They originally came with a white/black/grey snakeskin thin belt but I swapped it for a thin dark brown one.

If you ever get stuck with what to wear with burgundy or wine coloured garments – alot of the brown palette goes well with it.

You can purchase this pant online as well just click the image below.

IMG_0556

For makeup I went for a more natural look with light smoky eyes. My lipstick is a Nude Attitude by Revlon and my eye shadow goes from a brown to a black subtle cat eye. For the brown/gold I used Essence Marble brown and the black I used RIMMEL. I’ve applied it very lightly to fit in with the much softer features within this outfit.

IMG_0567

The Final touch : just a pair of black heels !

Outfit :

Top $49

Pant $45

Eye shadows – $4.99 each

AZ to the TEC

Amongst all the leopards,fresh fluoros, and pastel palette’s displayed in shop windows, there’s another sort of trend that’s been lingering around.

They’re not quite Abstract or Geometric but they’re AZTEC !

For those who aren’t familiar with this trend here is a little history (all you need to know for now anyway ! ) before we hit the Target Aztec Styles in store.

The Aztecs Originated from Mexico. Their Art reflected their great appreciation for insects and mammals.

Traditional Aztec Colour Palette’s for clothing include deep blue, green, red and yellow.

However, as contemporary Designers have adopted style and formed it into a trend, Designs and colour palette’s have become more diverse.

The Latest on T.L.O.R and Snake Print Denim <3

17th July – One week away from the final hand-in of hardcover book for major project. ( it’s been 3 weeks after marking)

Status: … Meh! Just a Tad fluey – no comment though…

This last Term of college – the production end of it all had gotten me quite booked up and busy.

Early mornings, Late nights, Sewing, sewing, sewing and more sewing, Theory and of course work…See the word “break” in there ?… no, of course you wouldn’t ! It didn’t exist !

After my final marking ( which I must say went quite well except for a few changes here and there), I was worried that I’d go absolutely insane going from a hectic lifestyle to a somewhat relaxed and comfortable break with nothing to do but NOTHING. On top of all the stress and ongoing to-do lists that would repeatedly race inside my mind during what was meant to be “sleep”, another question was always present… What will be next ?

So what came next ?

Well it wasn’t the wonderful break I’d been hoping for.

No trip to LA or New york, No hot Cheetos and Pretty Californian Sunsets, Not even a Europe or Eiffel Tower anywhere in there.

You see, when one studies fashion design it isn’t like most of the other university degrees where you can go vacation your heart away after you’re finished (unless you are loaded…baha!) but by the end of it there is no such thing as “savings” and you’re so broke from all the outsourcing and major project costs that you’re actually stuck right where you are… ( Yes believe it or not it’s true)

However, it didn’t turn out all that bad for me. The “OMG-what-the-hell-will-I-do-after-college-ends” panic mode for going from hectic to suddenly relaxed was wiped away and a new door opened. The full-time Stylist door ! Oh yeah baby !

So I’ve pretty much gone from designer production stage to the other end – Styling and dealing with all the pretty end products… THE SEWING FREE ZONE !

I’ve been doing In-store Styling for Target Castle Hill for the past two weeks, and I’m loving it.

I have my own little Stylist hub at the fitting rooms – So If you decide you need some advice on what to wear or want to know what’s on trend and what we have, you can drop in and book a one-on-one session with me.

So part of the job is obviously me wearing clothing from Target. I make up my own outfits per day and right here is where I’ll share them with you.

Every outfit, every clothing and accessory Item – All from Target.

So If you like something that I’m wearing from my Stylist’s outfit of the day you can easily go to your nearest Target store or come down and visit me and you can purchase it yourself. It’s that easy !

Stylist’s Outfit Of The Day | Look 1 | Snake Print Denim Reowr !!

Graphic, all-over, placement, and animal prints are all in this season and especially here to stick around for S/S ! So why not Bring out the Wild side in you with one of my seasonal Favourites – The Crazy Red Snake skin pant !

It is a nice all over snake print on a red base. A classic 5 pocket denim style that is Mid rise and a very nice cut skinny leg. Suitable for all sorts of body’s – yes even those with bums and tums.

IMG_0376

These are my favourite pair of pants this season. The cut is absolutely amazing ! I’ve sold them to all sorts of customers with different body shapes and on each one it’s a miraculous fit ! It’s the miracle pant – I’m telling you ! haha The waist of this pant is a mid-rise. This means that it allows for people who are bottom and hip heavy LIKE ME – The skinny leg is also very flattering as it’s cut to a nice snug fit around the calf/knee allowing you to bend and sit in comfort whilst remaining its shape. The print is also not so heavy so it doesn’t look like a mess.

IMG_0413

To Style this outfit – I picked a black Shirt with a high-low hem.

It also comes in two other colour ways. A Burnt orange and a Khaki. Both very on-trend, “Aztec” and easy to accessorise.

 IMG_0446IMG_0447

Add a Random Black Bag | Leopard print panel works well.

IMG_0349

To accessorise – Stick with the same colour palette’s of red and black – a shiny red diamond look with gunmetal would be great. I’ve chosen a matching set.

Add a Necklace….

IMG_0385

and matching Bracelet

IMG_0383

Don’t Forget the Shoes !

( If you don’t have a good pair of black heels, why not go for a comfortable pair like these.

A nice wedge and average stiletto. Wedge and stiletto are in a snake print and the rest of the shoe is a suede-like fabric)

IMG_0386

and the Lipstick.

Beauty Attitude’s $3 Lipstick is a very affordable price for a good quality lipstick.

A darker Raspberry red is great for brunettes and girls with darker features and a regular bright red for the fair skinned beauties.

IMG_0404

So what’s the Damage for the final look ?

Core pieces

Pants = $49

Top = $35

Total = $84

Additional | Accessories

Necklace = $ 20

Bracelet = $ 15

Bag = $ 35

Shoes = $40

Lipstick by Beauty Attitude = $3

Total = $113

All of these can be Purchased from Target Australia – Checkout the website for your nearest store or visit me at Castle Towers.

this thing called a bachelor of fashion design

Saturday morning – status – dead tired, overworked and anxious !

So it’s the weekend before my last term of college commences… I’m not quite sure whether I’m stressed, relieved, nervous, or happy – It all feels kind of surreal.

Sometimes we have so much going on that even the biggest events pass by like a breeze, all that stress, hard work and effort become quickly brushed into the past.

Notice how we spend so much time working up to things, then so much time looking back on them ? Realise how the actual event just came and went!

Sometimes things aren’t so bad I guess.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking in this two week break. I wouldn’t really call it a “ break” though as I’ve been tirelessly sewing/sampling and working. I know I’ve kind of disappeared since my last post on Easter but those weeks have just flown by so quickly that I’m only just taking control, taking one step back and breathing !

* * *

When I came back from LA in July 2009 I was all freshened up and relaxed. I knew that if I wanted to give my absolute best to “this thing called a bachelor of fashion design” I had to have the right mind. The first two classes I had in my first year were Fashion design studio and Colour Theory. I remember thinking “oh just making skirts and learning different types of silhouettes, working with different paint mediums – this is alright, it’s not too bad – a bit too much work to do, but I guess its alright”.

See when you are new to things, they are fun and exciting,  whether they remain that way and if you’re up for the challenges as the terms get harder and harder, that’s the real test.

I remember using a MAC for the first time and thinking WHAT THE HELL IS THIS !?!?!?! and learning how to use Photoshop and illustrator – that was a triple Trip out for me ! Then of course design studio part 2, where we had to design a range  as well as make one the shirts from our range – Looking back on that, I always giggle because back then I thought that was hard and stressful. I used to say to myself – “Oh my god I’m struggling to do this, I wonder what my state will be like when I’m in third year?!” – It’s made me realise how much I’ve grown, how much I’ve learnt, how it’s shaped what I’ve become and what I know. All the things I’ve sacrificed, all those parties, night outs, festivals and trips – was it worth missing all these things ? Honest answer of course is a yes. You never lose your true friends, trust me on that – it’s true – I still have all mine – if not, I have many more than I began with. After you learn to expect less from people around you and learn how to become a bit more independent you learn how to give things up and think more about you rather than for other people all the time, it becomes natural. It’s not a bad thing, it just becomes clear what your priorities are. It took a long time for me to get my priorities straight. Regardless, I always put college first, like I’ve mentioned many times before, college saved me, it was like it was always there, always giving me something to do, keeping me company through heartbreaks, life dramas and crisis’ There was no escaping it with that workload.

…and just when you think you’ve grasped the game of “this thing called a bachelor of fashion design” you head into your second year – swimwear, fashion shows, more theory, more prac, more draping, more new skills – you’re bombarded with all these new things.The most important part through this is that you keep true to what you’ve been doing,you never give up and you never let the team down. I’ve kept this mindset, and it’s always kept me strong. Another thing I noticed as the terms went on was that our classes got smaller and smaller – the amount of stress, budget, workload – some people just aren’t cut out for it.

At the end of 2010 we had a fashion show, like we do every year. My swimwear was in this show and the feedback from people, their expressions and their opinions motivated me a lot, it’s the final point – the return to start card, it’s like saying “ oh marvellous, great talent ! now go refresh, do your thing again, start a new range and excite us all again”. When people want more, and expect more it’s exciting, especially for someone young, and fresh like me !

To read my previous blog post on my swimwear just click the picture below.

After a long summer/Christmas break it was time to tackle 2011. By this stage I thought the experimentation process would be over and done with until of course I had to do knitwear as a subject. I’d always wanted to learn how to knit, however I’m sure after all that curiosity it’s something I won’t be doing sometime soon. hahahaha !! I remember looking back to 2009 and thinking WOW where did those two years go ! They had just flown !! LA felt as fresh as the day before, expect for the fact that two years had gone by and I was almost reaching my final year !!

(Just click the photographs to get linked to the blog posts from that photo-shoot/range)

After doing the photo-shoot for my knitwear, relying on the great skills I had learnt from working with stylists and designers from Fashion week and the Westfield show as well as interning at Ladakh, the flow of things came naturally, and it actually felt good handling my own work, my own shoot, my own team.

But hey – It’d doesn’t stop there !

Because I had started in July – My year began in July, meaning that straight after knitwear and being sick came mens and womenswear ! Till this day – I look back- I just don’t know how I managed to get it done. Again, all I can think of is the beginning and the end. All that stuff in between just untangles itself and the magic happens.

One of the most valuable things I learnt during men’s and women’s is that You learn that people who have always supported you will always of course be there if they are genuine, the people who are envious always talk shit no matter how much you ignore them and newcomers that have somehow made it into your life were sent by some “saviour of events” to help you through things you thought you’d never be able to accomplish!

Many favours, many volunteering events, networking – it all pays off – But don’t be fake ! I’ve always been myself, at times an honest bitch, and at others I’ve bitten my tongue, but all with good reason.

The following photographs were all possible because of the amazing team I had. I’m so proud of myself, to see what I’ve achieved. It’s a great feeling.

So guess what that left me with – one semester to go and major work approaching.

It’s only April and already in the first 4 months so much has happened ! The first term of the semester is done, I’ve completed all my subjects besides major work of course, my brother got married, we also lost some loved ones along the way, and just so many more other things !!

* * *

So it’s the weekend before my last term of college commences… I’m not quite sure whether I’m stressed, relieved, nervous, or happy – It all feels kind of surreal.

I’ve waited for this moment, this feeling for so long and I think I’ve become so used to the nature of “this thing called a bachelor of fashion design” that I’m actually coping okay ( apart from all the stress and hair I’ve lost hahahaha) It is still very hard, but I guess the previous years kind of built my expectations up, they’ve moulded me into a strong little seamstress !

All the final bits of fabric shopping are getting done – tiring days driving long distances from one supplier to another – I love that part though – Fabrication is really important to me, The feel of it, the composition…

IMG_9901

mmm I can smell the leather every time I look at this picture ! I love this place !

so Sample marking is on Tuesday, They aren’t perfect but they are just samples, I actually can’t wait for college to start again. I love seeing my things come to life – not by samples but by their actual fabrics, trims and embellishments. The story comes to life. I love the hype and stress of things – the fast-paced environment !

I made this video a few months ago – So I could show you guys my findings from Fabric shopping phase #1 !  p.s the video just ends randomly !

fabrics phase #1

Well the journey goes on, and I hope this fills all the gaps for you guys. I haven’t disappeared completely, I’m still here – just working very very hard And of course as this is the life of Rhy I’ll share many things with you guys along the way !

The low down on The Life of Rhy = ]

Hey guys !!!!
SO VERY SORRY in the delay in posts, but here at TLOR I am quite busy-busy as it is the last semester of my bachelor degree. For those of you who are not familiar, I have been studying a bachelor of Design majoring in fashion and it will soon come to an end. As sad as it is, and as relieved as I will be when it all ends – I Truly will miss it ! I have honestly learnt so much, and have worked with so many great and inspiring people ( that I will continue to work with) – its been an amazing experience !

So what’s the Low down at TLOR !? – We’re in week 3 here – EEEEEKKKK !!!! – And so far the first term has been REALLY REALLY FULL ON ( as you can tell by my delayed posts ha-ha). This is probably because I am doing a million things at once – for example – I am not only doing my major work (which I should really be focusing on just this) but I am also doing a Brand Management course, my internship at Ladakh (www.ladakh.com.au – check them out – they have an awesome new campaign!!) as well as working casually at Target and have now received the pleasure of being the in store Stylist (which I will tell you all more about below)

Therefore the days that I have left to actually DO MY WORK are ZERO – NON EXISTANT ! and that is of course how problems like stress and breakdown’s come about !!!!

So the last few weeks have been really exciting for me. I have started college again (bye-bye summer break) and am now working on my spring/summer 2013 collection. I have taken a darker approach for this collection – steering way from what I can confidently tell you all will be in fashion in spring summer 2013 and that is colour blocking again, sheers, oriental influences, cute summer prints, turquoises, really basic pieces with colour details, fruity tutty shades and palettes, and pastels, etc. Keep your eyes out for this trend guys as it will be in before you know it !
The palettes I have been working with are what’s known as a black summer – a timeless, nostalgic, historical approach with gorgeous fabrics like lace and silk, frills and layering – think Victorian meets modern, Death meets new light. I’ve decided to take this approach as I believe the trend suits the ready-to-wear deluxe aspect more,its almost challenging what we all know spring/summer should be with bold bright colours. It makes it okay to wear the darker shades, the teal instead of the turquoise, the black instead of white, the tea stained lace instead of bright pink silk organza !

Other things that have been happening would include my internship starting up again as well as my new role at work. I had an operation late last year which set me back quite a lot. However, getting back into the hectic environment I have become so used to makes me feel at home – I feel normal again. I know it sounds sick – but its the life of a fashion student who is so involved and so passionate about their work. Being back interning with the designers at Ladakh has been such a great experience and I really do enjoy working with the team.

I recently received a new role at work, one that is my professional role – A stylist. As many of you know I also do styling, I style lot of range book/look book/web store shoots, fashion weeks with designers as well as my friends, and my very own collections and photo-shoots. Today was my first day doing that at Target as we offered these workshops to the public and I believe it went quite well, very smoothly ! I had my comfortable forever 21 skirt on, of course my red work shirt, burgundy lipstick and a confidence boost I didn’t think would show. My Role involved me talking in front of a group of customers about a selection of clothes that I handpicked and considered to be fashionable, stylish, comfortable and trendy, things that they could mix and match with our basics for their wardrobes as well as trends and colours they could follow for the coming seasons.The close-to-Zara look for more than half the price. It was great engaging with the customers and providing them with professional yet honest advice. I must say I’ve had a tremendous day !

…and Even though I’m very tired, the minutes flick through on my clock.

I’ve become a slave to time,

I’ve got to get back and continue my work.

Colour me … ORANGE !

So I know there hasn’t been much action on behalf of Summer in Australia But the Final Month of Summer will soon fade into Autumn. If you haven’t already noticed, the trends in store are shifting to Burgundies, Reds, Tangelo type shades(orange-reds), eggplant colours – deep purples, liver reds and browns, mustard yellows, pure whites, bursting Blues and as always our beautiful BLACK. It’s going to be a wonderfully colourful wardrobe this coming Fall/winter.
Having completed my fall/winter collection, I’ve started to grow a new love for these shades ( p.s the photo-shoot will be taking place this weekend so watch this space for some awesome pictures from the new FALL/WINTER 2012 RATAVOSI collection) However, one colour that has made its snug way into my wardrobe this summer would have to be ORANGE !

I was going through my wardrobe, bits and pieces of the Ladakh/Anise collections, new and old Glamour, and Sportsgirl – and noticed I have matching tops, Bags and even shoes !
Unlike Orange, My favourite colour of all time, Turquoise, has had a hard time making it  there ! I guess I’ve been FAR TOO PICKY ! Not too worry though as it’s still within the palette’s in the coming seasons !
